CSD Director Jason Wimbley

Jason Wimbley was appointed Director of the California Department of Community Services and Development (CSD) by Governor Gavin Newsom in June 2024. As Director, he oversees the administration of community services and energy programs through a network of community-based partners to improve the economic security of low-income families, individuals, and communities throughout the state.

Director Wimbley started with CSD in 1992. He has extensive experience working with low-income energy needs and leading the development and administration of state and federal energy assistance programs. Director Wimbley​ served as Acting Director of the department from November 2023 until his appointment as Director, and Chief Deputy Director from 2013 to 2023.​ From 2001 to 2013, he was CSD's Energy and Environmental Services Division Chief, overseeing the administration of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program and the U.S. Department of Energy's Weatherization Assistance Program, among other programs. 

Director​ Wimbley also serves as the department's designated representative to the Low-Income Oversight Board--an advisory ​board established by the legislature to advise the California Public Utilities Commission on low-income electric and gas customer issues and which serves as a liaison for the Commission to low-income utility customers and representatives.​
