You May Qualify for Free Weatherization for Your Home!

Weatherization is the process of making your home more “air tight” and energy efficient.  Weatherization not only makes you and your family more comfortable, it saves you money!

On this page you'll learn more about weatherization and find out who to contact for more information.

Who Needs Weatherization?

Take this short quiz and find out:

a  In the winter, do you feel cold “breezes” coming from windows and doors, even when they’re closed?

a Do you run the heater all day just to stay warm?

a  In the summer is the air conditioner always on?

a  Are your heating and cooling bills way too expensive?

If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, your house may need Weatherization!

What is Weatherization?

Weatherization is the process of making your home more “air tight” and more energy efficient.  The goal of any weatherization project is to keep the warm air in and the cold air out in the winter.  And keep the cold air in and warm air out in the summer.

Most houses have cracks and holes that you can’t even see, especially around windows and doors and pipes.  When you turn your heater on in the winter, the warm air you’re producing (and paying for!) heads straight for those cracks and escapes outside.  The same thing happens with your air conditioner in the summer.

Weatherizing your house stops the air from escaping.  The most common types of weatherization include:  sealing the holes and cracks, putting insulation in the attic, fixing or replacing windows, putting an insulated blanket around your water heater, making sure your heating and air conditioning systems are working right, and more.

How Weatherization Benefits You

    FatherandSonatHome
  • Your home stays warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.
  • Your utility bills will be lower because you’re not losing heated or cooled air.  How much you'll save depends on many things, like the weather where you live, how much repair your home needs, and what your utility rates are.  But, nationwide, the average yearly savings after weatherization is $437.
