GENERAL INFORMATION
The Department of Community Services and Development administers the California State Naturalization Services Program (NSP) by funding community-based organizations to provide services to assist legal permanent residents in becoming naturalized citizens.

ASSISTANCE TYPE

Naturalization services funded include the following:

  • outreach
  • intake and assessment
  • collaboration with, and referral to other naturalization services organizations
  • citizenship application assistance
  • citizenship testing and interview preparation
  • follow-up

ELIGIBILITY

You must be a legal permanent resident of the U.S. There are no income restrictions on this program.

 

FUNDING SOURCE
The Naturalization Services Program is implemented to the extent that funds are appropriated for this purpose in the annual State Budget Act. The 2007/2008 State Budget Act appropriated $3 million for the NSP which will provide 11,089 legal permanent residents with assistance. 

Services are provided in each local community throughout the State by local non-profit organizations selected by CSD through a Request for Application (RFA) process conducted in 2006. CSD reallocates each year’s appropriation through renewal contracts to those organizations.
