GENERAL INFORMATION
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides funding to states and local governments to evaluate and remediate lead-based paint hazards in pre-1978 low-income privately owned housing. The state Department of Community Services & Development (CSD) administers the Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control Program in California. CSD has been awarded over $22 million from HUD since 1995 for evaluation and remediation of lead-based paint hazards, developing lead-safe training resources, and building capacity for the CSD network of service providers to achieve self sufficiency in delivering services in their communities. CSD contracts with four community-based organizations to provide lead hazard control services in six California counties (see below for counties and organization links).

ASSISTANCE TYPE
The Lead Hazard Control Program delivers lead hazard control services to eligible low-income households occupied by young children to ensure lead-safe housing. Services include evaluation and remediation of lead-based paint and are available only in the counties listed below.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must meet the LEAD Income Guidelines (.pdf, 1 page) and reside in one of the counties in which services are available.
FUNDING SOURCE
The Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and provides lead hazard control services to privately owned and rental housing units occupied by low-income families. Housing units that were built pre-1978 and occupied by a child under the age of six are targeted for lead hazard control services.
